On Sunday, August 21, Michael Van den Abeele hosted an open studio in Deep Bay at the Bridge Studio.

“One afternoon, about two weeks ago, I was working on an aquarelle of a flat-iron, facing & adoring itself in the mirror, and I realized the drawing was doing something similar as the texts I had been writing most of the mornings, which were mainly random thoughts, I had started to split up into dialogue between two voices -an attempt to create illusion of depth between the one and the other. Sunday I’ll be showing some of those drafts and sketches along with some others.”

Michael Van den Abeele was born in Brussels, Belgium where he still lives and works with a variety of media: painting, sculpture, writing and readings are the ones most favoured.

Past presentations and exhibitions of work took place at SMAK and KIOSK, Ghent, Belgium; la Salle de Bains, Lyon, France; gallery Gaudel de Stampa, Paris, France; Marquise, Lisbon; CAC, Vilnius; Museum Leuven and WIELS Brussels, Belgium. Since 2003 he is active within the Brussels-based exhibition space Etablissement d’en face, and since 2022 he works as part of the Residency team of WIELS contemporary art centre in Brussels. He published the book Forked Apologies in 2017 (Forest & Motto distribution), which gathers a selection of applied writing in the arts.
