As a charitable program of Shorefast, FIA relies on the generous support of our Patrons and friends, as well as partnerships with Canadian and international organizations to sustain our activities. A significant part of our funding is tied to local tourism, which has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, under current regulations, visitors to Newfoundland and Labrador must self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival, making it impossible for us to welcome artists-in-residence. The combination of these factors has resulted in lay-offs for our small team and the suspension of all FIA residencies and programs.
The unprecedented social and economic impacts of COVID-19 are felt by all of us, and perhaps keenly so by artists and cultural workers. The FIA team is working hard to secure our organization’s viability over the long-term and we remain strong in our conviction that art is key to offering new perspectives on issues of vital importance. Please consider a donation to FIA or join our Patrons Program.
