After six years with Fogo Island Arts, Alexandra McIntosh is leaving the organization to become Director of the International Centre for Art and Landscape on Vassivière Island, France.
Located in the Limousin region, the Centre has much in common with FIA, in its place-based engagement of a rural context and iconic contemporary architecture that reflects the history of its site. The CIAP hosts an exhibition program as well as artist residencies and public programs, and also has a Sculpture Wood.
“It’s a fantastic position and an exciting new opportunity for Alexandra, and I wish to thank her for her invaluable contributions to FIA and Shorefast,” says FIA Strategic Director Nicolaus Schafhausen.
Alexandra joined FIA as Director of Programs and Exhibitions and moved to Fogo Island in 2015. In collaboration with Nicolaus Schafhausen, she has overseen FIA’s artist residencies, exhibitions, publications and events, as well as the development of strategic programs and partnerships. Major FIA projects during Alexandra’s time with the organization include the establishment of an annual series of socially and politically engaged film and a residency dedicated to arts writing, as well as commissions and solo exhibitions with artists including Abbas Akhavan, Wilfrid Almendra, Marlene Creates, Shezad Dawood, Ieva Epnere, Edgar Leciejewski, Jumana Manna, Isa Melsheimer and Augustas Serapinas. She was co-curator of the Fogo Island Gallery and co-editor of FIA’s publication series.
FIA will be welcoming new staff members to the team in the coming months; further announcements to come.
The Fogo Island Arts team and Advisory Board and Shorefast team wish Alexandra all the best in her new position!
