Fogo Island Inn, Atrium
Fogo Island Arts (FIA) presents an informal conversation between artist Hannah Rickards and curator Melanie O’Brian.
Rickards’ exhibition Grey Light. Left and Right Back, High Up, Two Small Windows, on view at the Fogo Island Gallery from September 24, 2014 to April 6, 2015, is the outcome of two artist residencies spent on the island in 2013-14. Based on recordings made inside Seldom Community Hall, the video and sound installation is a choreography for camera and two performers, structured rhythmically around the sound of a foghorn.
Rickards and O’Brian will discuss some of the ideas behind the work, the artistic process, and the specific influence of Fogo Island on the installation.
Based in London, Hannah Rickards is celebrated internationally for her artistic exploration of human perception and natural phenomena. Melanie O’Brian is Director of Simon Fraser University Art Galleries, Vancouver.
