Fogo Island Arts makes publications to accompany exhibitions presented at the Fogo Island Gallery. Artist monographs provide a context for extended consideration of an exhibiting artist’s work, in formats including critical essays, interviews and recorded conversations. Combined with images that document each exhibition and artist pages, Fogo Island Arts’ publications help to create a record of the artist’s time on the island for posterity and for broader dissemination through international art publishing distribution networks.
Fogo Island Arts books are produced in partnership with other institutions and publishers, including Sternberg Press, a Berlin-based imprint for art criticism, theory, fiction, and artists’ books.
The design lead for all publications is Markus Weisbeck of Surface Design, Frankfurt. Weisbeck established Surface in 1997. Clients include nationally and internationally renowned institutions and companies, such as the Serpentine Gallery in London, Zumtobel AG, Hugo Boss, BMW, Sternberg Press, Jewish Museum Berlin, and Manifesta.
