Dr. Johanne Sloan

About the Curator

Dr. Johanne Sloan is an art historian and curator, and professor emeritus in the Department of Art History at Concordia University, in Montreal. She has written extensively about the artist and experimental filmmaker Joyce Wieland, most recently in the article Joyce Wieland’s Defend the Earth (1972): Forging an Ecopublic, Journal of Canadian Studies, 2025. She has also focused on the art, photography, and visual culture of Montreal, in the co-edited books Expo 67: Not Just a Souvenir (2009) and Photogenic Montreal: Activisms and Archives in a Post-industrial City (2021). She is currently writing a book that situates Montreal within the international postcard craze of 1900-1914.
